The Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) is a simple measure designed to measure various states of psychological distress. The scale involves 10 questions about emotional states each with a five-level likert response scale. This measure can be used as a brief self-screening device to identify levels of stress. The tool is often given to patients to complete. In the context of injury management, the measure can be provided to the patient where recovery is not proceeding as anticipated (for instance, between weeks four and six), and may highlight a need for more regular review, or referral to a specialist health provider such as a psychologist.
Individuals best suited for our program usually score between the ranges of 12-23. If you score above this range, we recommend seeking a medical professional or environment to better suit your needs.
